Visit the San Diego Automotive Museum
The San Diego Automotive Museum is a fantastic museum that features many classic automobiles and vehicle oriented exhibits. This museum is focused on conveying the technological and social history of all automobiles throughout time, including vehicles in present day, and some proposed designs for future. Built in 1988, this museum was the design of a racer and automobile enthusiast Brigg Cunningham. A proposal to build the museum was made in 1979, and after 9 years the San Diego Automobile Museum was finally completed, and remains an icon for the city of San Diego.
About the San Diego Automotive Museum
Located in Balboa Park in San Diego, the San Diego Automotive Museum is surrounded by stunning wildlife. The museum is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. every day, with the last admission into the museum being at 4:30 p.m. Entry fees are $10 for adults ages 16 to 64. For students, members of the military, and senior citizens entry is $6, and $4 for children ages 6 through 15.
There are many amazing exhibits and attractions to see in the San Diego Automotive Museum. There are many alternating exhibits, with some permanent exhibits on display as well. Some of the more famous exhibits are Steve McQueen, Plank Road, and the Harley Davidson Collection. The Steve McQueen exhibits focuses on none other than the actor and racer Steve McQueen, whose career began by racing Harley Davidson motorcycles. Plank Road focuses on conveying the history of the routes and roads constructed between major cities in California in the early 1920’s, and how this led to the construction of Plank Road, a wooden trail that quickly deteriorated over time and constant wear. The Harley Davidson Collection is a classic exhibit which focuses on the rich history of the Harley Davidson brand, and how their motorcycles evolved and grew over the course of history.
The San Diego Automobile Museum also features a variety of events for everyone visiting. These events often bring to the museum exclusive exhibits that will only be featured during the event and are always educational and inspiring. Some nearing events include Free Tuesday on May 22nd, where all who enter the museum during open hours are allowed inside free of charge to San Diego residents!
